Laptop won't turn on

My Hp laptop battery swollen so I had to remove it from my device.

Then I plugged in my device to the power directly.

It did not turn on at all.

So does this device work without battery?

That's my question.

I just replaced my battery because of the same issue on the HP Spectre. It did not turn on without the battery. It does not turn on with the new battery. I went buy a HP Envy, but I want to fix the Spectre because I prefer it.

The unit will not support without a battery,  plugging in directly may harm the unit
