Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Last night the battery came out of my laptop and it stayed that way overnight. This morning upon replacing the battery I found that the laptop would not begin the boot process. I did notice that when plugged in, a small light near the charging port would turn from its usual white, to red whenever I attempted to boot the computer. It will not start whether the batter is in or out and regardless of whether or not it is plugged in.

Hey, I'd tried all those things before to no avail. In the end, I bought a replacement battery which came in today and my computer is now running fine. Sorry to waste your time but I certainly appreciate your efforts!

Hi @JSullivan11,

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the  "boot" issue.

To better assist you - Please help me with the exact serial, product number, and model of your product to help you better.
Click on this link to know how to find the serial number.

Before troubleshooting startup issues, remove or disconnect all discs and devices from the computer.

  1. Turn off the computer.

  2. Remove any discs and USB devices.

  3. Remove memory cards from the card reader slot.

  4. Disconnect all non-essential devices such as printers, scanners, external hard drives.

  5. Leave only the mouse, keyboard, and monitor connected.

After you have removed all discs and devices, turn on the computer.

  • If the computer starts, reconnect devices one at a time, to determine which disc or device is causing the problem. If the issue is solved, troubleshooting is complete.

  • If the computer still does not start and exhibits the same problem, press and hold the Power button to turn off the computer. Do not connect anything, and then continue troubleshooting.

Refer to the steps in the document Computer Does Not Start

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
