Hp Envy 17

Hello,

My power jack blinks during start up in the following way:

~5 seconds white light

~10 seconds orange light

0.5 seconds white light

0.5 seconds orange light

Then turns off, waits a few seconds and restarts this pattern.

It does not charge and cannot be turned on.

We have opened the laptop (HP Envy 17 from 2020), and the battery seems to be fine, no bumps or anthying?

What might be the issue? Power jack malfunction? It's the only thing I can think about.

The problem started some random day when the battery must have drained out after sleep mode, and I was unable to charge it back up.

During a couple days prior to the start of the problem I noticed the charge would stop at around 80% (white light would appear), and the battery seemed to drain a little quicker that usual, I was staying abroad and the outlet seemd to be low quality or intermittent, so I assumed it was that.

Hi @AR969,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The blinking pattern you described on the power jack of your HP Envy 17 suggests that there might be an issue with the power supply or charging system. The alternating white and orange lights typically indicate a problem with the power or battery.

Here are a few possible reasons for the issue.

  1. Faulty Power Adapter or Cable:

    • Ensure that the power adapter and cable are in good condition. Try using a different power adapter if possible.
    • Check for any visible damage to the power cable or adapter.
  2. Battery Issues:

    • Even though you mentioned that the battery seems fine physically, it's possible that there's an internal issue with the battery itself. The fact that it stopped charging at around 80% before the problem started could be an indicator.
    • Try removing the battery and see if the laptop powers up using only the power adapter. If it does, the battery might need replacement.
  3. Power Jack or Charging Port:

    • The power jack on the laptop might be damaged or loose. Inspect the power jack for any signs of physical damage or loose connections.
  4. Motherboard Issues:

    • In some cases, motherboard issues can cause charging problems. T

Given the symptoms you've described, it's likely that the issue lies with either the power adapter, the battery, or the power jack. If checking the power adapter and cable, and removing the battery doesn't resolve the problem,

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
