HP 255 G7

I have a .\localadmin login screen with no password. When I turn on the laptop it already states states that the password is incorrect. There are no options to change the user before logging in.

When the screen times out and I press any key, it prompts me to enter email and password for 'other user' but I haven't set any of these things up. I could just turn on and use before this happened.

@MMcQ123

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

I'll be glad to help.

Check if the computer boots to safe mode.

Click here for more details: https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/12376/windows-10-start-your-pc-in-safe-mode

If the computer boots to safe mode, create a new user account to check if that works.

If safe mode doesn't work, please perform an extensive hardware test to ensure this isn't a hardware malfunction.

  • Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  • Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
  • On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests.
  • Click the Extensive Test.
  • Click Run once, or Loop until error.
  • While the test is running, the time remaining and test result for each component display on the screen.
  • If a component fails a test, write down the failure ID (24-digit code) for when you respond back to us.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
