HP Notebook - 14-Df0023cl
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I originally posted here a year ago (original post and response is at the bottom of this post).  I followed the steps per the response, but the computer still will not boot up.  I don't remember how I even got the memory failure check code below to see if I am receiving the same error code.  From Amazon, I bought  [ Crucial RAM 16GB Kit (2x8GB) DDR4 2400 MHz CL17 laptop memory CTsK8G4SFS824A ].  When I went to install it, there were two slots available.  Only one spot was being taken up from the factory installed RAM.  The tabs on the RAM purchased from Amazon were not lined up to replace the original RAM without inverting the RAM card.  I did not have to invert the RAM card on the open RAM slot.

FIRST QUESTION: How do I repeat the test to get the failure code?

SECOND QUESTION: Did I buy the wrong RAM?

What you were doing & experienced: my son's laptop was randomly shutting down.  I realized we had never installed anti virus software and decided to do a factory reset.  It's never booted up since.  I ran a test and thre memory failed.  Failure ID: QAG700-9B7A2JMFGJ2K-40DX03. HP support says it needs to be fixed but don't know what to do. wireless connection fyi

Hi:

The error code reported, Memory Module 1 Failure, means that you need to replace the memory module in slot 1 of your notebook.

If you never added memory, the specs for your notebook indicate that it has a single 4 GB memory module in one slot.

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook where you can find the memory removal and replacement procedure.

Since you have to take the notebook apart to replace the memory, you may want to consider adding more to it.

2 x 8 GB would give a decent boost in performance.

This would be the kit I recommend from those listed...CT2K8G4SFS824A

You won't be able to use the notebook until you replace the defective memory module.

Check Amazon for that kit part number, it may cost less than buying directly from Crucial.

@Burtopia   Try this if you haven't yet...

Remove one ram stick from the slot that originally had no stick and see if it will boot (don't fully put the case back together of course).

Then, swap the first stick with the second stick into the same slot. Test.

Then do the same thing for the other ram slot with each stick.

You might have either a bad stick or a bad slot. This is the best way to find out.
