Hey can someone help me out, my laptop HP 14s-cf1046tu is stuck on a black screen after attempting to update bios to the 20H2 version.
I already tried the windows + B/V or ctrl+esc to recover it, didn't work. Tried hard reset (the power button method) didn't work. Tried flashing the 20H2 update (as well older versions) on to it via usb, didn't work (I followed as instructions on support site).
I'm really confused on what to do. I also did a full check on my after market ram, ssd, and battery (can't seem to find the cmos battery tho), taking them off and trying again. It's weird cause it started updating on its own.

Hi @Rz07,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you've tried several troubleshooting steps already, which is great. Here are a few more things you can try.
- Boot into Safe Mode: Sometimes, a black screen issue can be caused by incompatible drivers or software. Try booting into Safe Mode by pressing F8 or Shift + F8 repeatedly while your computer is booting up. From there, you can try uninstalling any recently installed drivers or software that might be causing the issue.
- Remove External Devices: Disconnect all external devices (such as USB drives, printers, etc.) from your laptop and then try booting it up again.
- Check Hardware Connections: Ensure that all hardware components are properly connected inside your laptop. Sometimes, a loose connection can cause issues with booting up.
- CMOS Battery Reset: The CMOS battery is typically located on the motherboard. It's a small coin-shaped battery. If you're comfortable doing so, try locating and removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes to reset the BIOS settings.
- BIOS Recovery via USB: Try creating a BIOS recovery USB drive following the specific instructions provided by HP for your laptop model. Ensure that the USB drive is formatted correctly and contains the necessary BIOS recovery files.
If your laptop started updating on its own, it's possible that there was a problem with the BIOS update process itself. Sometimes, interruptions during the update process can cause issues like the one you're experiencing.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
