I have not used my laptop for a few months. I plugged it in to charge for a few hours but when I came to power it up, it will not power on. I have tried the HP troubleshooter, holding power buttons for 15 seconds and unplugging and plugging in power cords etc and nothing works. When the power cord is connected a get a slow white flashing light by the power connection.

@Greatgadget Welcome to HP Community!
Have you attempted to connect the device to an alternate power cord or adapter?
Or check with another wall outlet, excluding any surge protectors to check if it works?
While you respond to that, here's the best way to resolve the issue, using the HP Guided Troubleshooter:
CLICK HERE FOR STEP BY STEP GUIDE
(simply select your description of the issue from the bottom of the screen to gain access to the next set of steps that should resolve your concern).
If the above doesn't help or the steps are insufficient, check the below steps:
Let's start with a hard reset of your notebook computer before you try any other troubleshooting steps.
Reasons for a hard reset
A hard reset has the following effects:
-
Clears the memory.
-
Reestablishes the connection between the BIOS and the hardware
The following conditions can be helped by the hard reset:
-
Windows stop responding.
-
The display suddenly goes blank.
-
The computer does not wake from sleep or hibernate modes.
-
Software applications freeze or fail to respond.

Thank you for your message, I have tried all the HP troubleshooter steps and there is no response at all from my laptop.
The steps in the trouble shooter do not quite match my situation as when I plug in the power adapter I get a slow flashing white led, does this help you to help me at all?
It is also frustrating that I bought the extended 3 year warranty and my laptop has stopped a month after it ran out!

@Greatgadget If this white light you are referring to is on the power button or the adapter, its most likely a hardware malfunction and I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options, follow the below steps to get started:
1) Click on this link - http://www.hp.com/contacthp/
2) Click on Sign-in or select the product using the below step:
3) Enter the serial of your device.
4) Select the country from the drop-down.
5) Click on "Show Options".
Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!
Also, if you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty, if yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from,
here's how private messages work: Click here for details.
If you wish to thank me for my efforts, you could click on "Accept as solution" on my post as the solution should help others too.

Thank you for your continued help.
The white flashing light next to the 4.5mm power jack input was bothering me. I have managed to borrow a power supply from a similar machine and my laptop is now happily charging, so the power supply was the issue.
My laptop is just one month outside of its extended three year warranty, will HP supply me with a new power supply?
Thank you.
