Hi @Tohzho,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The pattern of blinking lights on the Caps Lock key of an HP laptop typically indicates a hardware issue. In your case, 5 slow blinks and 3 fast blinks likely refer to a specific error code. Here's what you can try to diagnose and potentially fix the issue.
Power Reset
- Step 1: Turn off the laptop.
- Step 2: Disconnect all external devices and unplug the power adapter.
- Step 3: Remove the battery (if it's removable).
- Step 4: Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds.
- Step 5: Reconnect the battery and power adapter, then try to turn on the laptop.
Check the RAM
- Step 1: Turn off the laptop and disconnect the power adapter.
- Step 2: Open the laptop's back cover (you may need a screwdriver).
- Step 3: Locate the RAM modules and carefully remove them.
- Step 4: Reinsert the RAM modules to ensure they are properly seated.
- Step 5: If you have multiple RAM modules, try inserting one module at a time to check if one is faulty.
Check the Display
- Step 1: Connect your laptop to an external monitor using HDMI, VGA, or DisplayPort.
- Step 2: Turn on the external monitor and the laptop to see if there is any display on the external monitor.
BIOS Recovery
- Step 1: Turn off the laptop.
- Step 2: Press and hold the Windows + B keys and then press the power button for 2-3 seconds.
- Step 3: Release the power button but keep holding the Windows + B keys until the BIOS recovery screen appears (if it does).
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
