If you download an ISO to reinstall you will need a key. IF you can run a System Recovery you won't need a key. Immediately after powering on start tapping the F11 key to boot into recovery.

If you can read the 25 character Windows 7 license key on the Microsoft COA label attached to bottom of laptop , you can download a Windows 7 ISO file to make a bootable DVD or USB flash drive. The version  must match the original version installed on your PC as  listed on the COA. Such as Windows Home Premium.

You can use the Windows 7 USB/DVD installation tool to convert the ISO file you download. Link and instructions below. You need a  DVD+R or DVD -R . Or a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB method.

Fwiw-I have better results using Rufus to create a usb flash drive installer with the ISO: https://rufus.akeo.ie/

Use the 25 character key on the COA to activate the installation.
Next go to your support and driver page to install the drivers you need.

I assume you are looking at this page where you would choose your language and region? That tool does not download the ISO. It is to convert the ISO into bootable usb or dvd. You download the ISO from the other link I posted.

I usually use Rufus to make a bootable usb,

Is there a way of going into my laptop to know the product key?
HP Recommended

@DRich_128

No, the product key for Windows 7 is only on the label attached to bottom. There is a key you can find-BUT it will not work with an ISO install. It is the key used by HP during factory installation and  only works with HP System Recovery. Can you not run a System Recovery to reinstall?

I would also get the Recovery Media made for it if you can- especially since license key can't be read. You won't need a key to reinstall using the Recovery Media.
