I just got my laptop a few days ago and it’s a hp 15 touch screen, and it constantly says it’s on 73% if I charge it it’ll only go up higher but it never goes past 73%, sometimes when I’m working on my laptop it’ll randomly say it’s shutting down even tho it says it’s on 73% so I’ll connect the charger and that’s when it’ll finally tell me it’s fully dead and then the same process will happen again the best few days, no matter how much I work on my laptop it’ll constantly say it’s on 73%

Hi @Brandi_04

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

From what I have understood, your system is stuck at a 73% charge. Do not worry, we are here to help you with it.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Since how long is this happening with the battery?
  • If the charger is disconnected, does the laptop stay powered on with the battery power?

Meanwhile, I recommend you perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Remove the battery. If the battery is integrated and does not have a latch to release it then leave the battery inside the laptop.
  • Disconnected AC adapter from the laptop.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and plug the AC adapter.
  • Power ON the laptop.

Now, please uninstall the battery drivers by following the below steps:

1. Go to Start, search for Device Manager, and open this result.

2. Expand batteries.

3. Right-click on the ACPI option (usually the 2nd option) and select delete or uninstall. Follow the prompts.

4. Shut down the computer.

5. Disconnect the charger.

6. Remove the battery.

7. Hold down the power button for 1 minute.

8. Insert the battery only.

9. Attempt to turn the battery on.

If the battery continues to charge for not more than 73% then please update the BIOS via this link.

You may perform the following steps from this HP document to test the battery and also calibrate it.

  • Test the AC adapter using the UEFI Hardware Diagnostics tests.
  • Troubleshooting the notebook battery.

Let me know the outcome of all the steps.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

It has been happening ever since I got my laptop which was two weeks ago, and yes if the charger is disconnected it stays powered until it just randomly dies even tho it still told me it was on 73%, I already did the BIOS updates and my battery test passed and also passed the AC test. I already tried multiple times restarting it but it doesn’t help and my laptop is fully up to date
