HP Envy x360 14 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-fa-0000 (8Z8P5AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello!

I own a relatively new PC - HP Envy x360 14 inch - I bought it few months ago.

Today, I stared to experience issues with it - my HP freezes with no reason. Once it's frozen, sometimes it stays frozen untill I need to use a power button to turn it off. In most cases, after few seconds of frozen screen, laptop restarts itselfe automatically.

I have no idea what is the rootcause. I ran a few HP tests and no issues with Windows detected. Unfortunately, I was not able to run "HP PC Hardware Diagnostics" test because during the test my laptop freeze and restarts.

I don't detect unussually hight temperature of the device.

This freezeing/restaring issues keeps over and over after 3-15 minutes after I turn on the PC. No memory/power consuming apps running in parellel.

Could you please suggest me that shoud I do?

Thank you!

Damian

@Protos100, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop restarting with no reason!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

That definitely sounds frustrating, especially on a relatively new HP Envy x360. Since your device freezes and then restarts without any clear trigger, let’s try to narrow this down step by step:

1. Check for Windows Event Logs

Right after the restart, press Win + R, type eventvwr.msc, and hit Enter.

Go to Windows Logs > System.

Look for critical errors around the time of the freeze/restart (often marked as “Kernel-Power” or “BugCheck”).
This can give us a clue if it’s a driver crash, power issue, or Windows error.

2. Update BIOS, Chipset & Graphics Drivers

Go to the HP Support site → Enter your serial number.

Download and install the latest BIOS update, plus drivers for chipset, graphics, and power management.
(Sometimes freezes like this happen due to outdated firmware.)

3. Try Safe Mode

Boot into Safe Mode with Networking:

Press Shift + Restart → Troubleshoot → Advanced Options → Startup Settings → Restart → Select 4 (Safe Mode).

See if it still restarts in Safe Mode.
If it’s stable here, the issue is likely a driver/software conflict rather than hardware.

4. Run HP Diagnostics via BIOS

Since your laptop restarts during Windows-based diagnostics, try running tests directly from BIOS:

Power off your PC.

Tap Esc repeatedly at startup → Choose F2 (System Diagnostics).

Run the Memory Test and Extensive System Test.
These run outside of Windows, so they’re less likely to be interrupted.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
