Hi @Mahalakamaha,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your laptop isn't starting and shows a message that it needs to be rebooted, here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Turn off the laptop completely.
  • Unplug the power adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and power adapter, then try to turn it on again.

2. Boot into Safe Mode:

  • Restart the laptop and repeatedly press F8 (or Shift + F8) before the Windows logo appears.
  • Select Safe Mode from the menu. If it boots in Safe Mode, you may be able to troubleshoot further from there.

3. Use Startup Repair:

  • If Safe Mode doesn't work, you can try the Startup Repair option:
    • Restart the laptop and interrupt the boot process by powering it off 2-3 times in a row.
    • On the next boot, you should see Windows Recovery Environment.
    • Select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Repair.

4. Check for External Devices:

  • Disconnect any external devices (USB drives, external hard drives, etc.) and try booting again.

5. Restore to a Previous Point:

  • If you have System Restore enabled, you can access it from the Advanced options in the Recovery Environment:
    • Select System Restore and choose a restore point before the issue began.

6. Check BIOS/UEFI Settings:

  • Access BIOS/UEFI by pressing the designated key (often F2, F10, or Del) during startup.
  • Ensure that the boot order is correct and that the hard drive is detected.

7. Run Diagnostic Tests:

  • Many laptops have built-in diagnostics. Access them via the BIOS or by pressing a specific key during startup (often F12 or another function key).
  • Run the diagnostics to check for hardware issues.

8. Reinstall Windows:

  • If all else fails and you can access the recovery options, you might consider reinstalling Windows. Be cautious, as this can erase data.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
