Hi @Man35,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When a laptop, such as the HP 15-R014si Notebook PC, displays a black screen and the caps lock light blinks, it typically indicates a hardware or power-related issue. The specific pattern of caps lock blinks can provide more information about the problem. Here are some general troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Count the Blinking Caps Lock Light:

  • Note the number of times the caps lock light blinks. The blinking pattern may provide a specific error code that can help diagnose the issue.

Consult the HP Blink Code Chart:

  • HP laptops often use a blink code to indicate specific hardware problems. Refer to the HP Blink Code Chart for your specific model, which can usually be found in the laptop's user manual or on the HP support website.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Turn off the laptop and disconnect all external devices.
  • Remove the laptop battery (if removable) and unplug the power adapter.
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to discharge residual power.
  • Reinsert the battery, plug in the power adapter, and try turning on the laptop.

Check for External Display Issues:

  • Connect the laptop to an external monitor to see if the display is working on an external screen. This can help determine if the issue is with the laptop's display or another component.

Reseat RAM and Hard Drive:

  • Power off the laptop and disconnect it from the power source.
  • Open the back panel to access the RAM and hard drive.
  • Reseat the RAM modules and the hard drive to ensure proper connections.

Inspect for Physical Damage:

  • Check for any visible signs of physical damage, such as a cracked screen or damaged components.

Update BIOS/UEFI:

  • Visit the HP support website and check if there are any BIOS/UEFI updates available for your laptop. If so, follow the instructions to update the firmware.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
