I've been running Xubuntu on this since LTS version 16.04, upgrading to 18.04 with no problems. I recently moved to Xubuntu 20.04 as 18.04 support ends next year. The laptop (64GB version) freezes afer between 10 minutes and about an hour's use, then reboots a couple of minutes later. I believe the problem is related to Linux 5.x series kernels as I was running a 4.x kernel in Xubuntu 18.04. I've tried several other distros using 5.x kernels (Fedora, Gecko (Suse) Absolute, PCLinuxOS, Mageia) with the same freeze occurring. Oh, I've also tried BSD and that won't even boot.
This problem may be related to sound drivers as sound never worked before moving to a 5.x kernel (and I never expected it to as I know the drivers for this device's sound only were available with 5.x kernels.
All suggestions welcome.

I'm sorry, but HP only warranties their PCs for usage with the OS that comes preinstalled.
IF you replace that with a Linux distro, or add a Linux distro, then you assume full responsibility for maintaining that -- including solving any problems with booting the other OS and/or installing the other OS.
Your best bet for support with issues with Linux is to contact the support forum of the distro you are using.
Good Luck
