Hi,

Did you try clean install of Windows 7 in the new HDD?

Did you change any BIOS settings before this happened?

Can you try replace CMOS/RTC battery with a new one and see if issue is resolved.

Regards

Visruth

I didn't change any BIOS setting,

I loaded default settings.

I already removed CMOS,

the windows7 is newly installed.

Yet the system still spends 20 to 45min at the windows logo screen

I'll suggest you to replace CMOS battery with a new one.

Do a battery test. Replace battery with a new HP genuine battery, as battery is the first to go out in this old machine.

See if AC adapter is good enough or need replacement.

Well you've tried almost everything as troubleshooting. There is no harm in trying these too, isn't it?

Is there overheating, unusually warm air through vents?

Have you reapplied thermal paste over processor, heat sink?

Yes, there is overheating, I noticed the Terminal paste has dried up, but I didn't apply another

You may have clean it out and reapply thermal paste then.

Do extensive system testing from BIOS by tapping away F2 or ESC key as soon as you power on laptop.
