My laptop gets stuck on black screen when I try to boot it. It would occasionally boot to straight to windows without showing BIOS screen or any loading screen whatsoever, something like 1 our of 50 attempts. So I saw numerous suggestions online and no, conclusion isn't that video card is fried(because it occasionally would load OS and I tried with external monitor connected as well) or RAM isn't properly attached(I tried removing it and putting it back in). I tried pressing all sorts of key combos that were given on HP support website, no luck. If it sometimes loads OS directly, doesn't it mean that motherboard isn't faulty? I am running out of ideas. One catch though: CMOS battery holder broke, so battery isn't quite properly attached and I tried replacing one as well. Is it possible that CMOS battery can cause BIOS to fail to load? Please if anyone has any suggestion, I would love to hear it.

@yura910721 Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that you are getting a black screen.

Please attempt the below steps:

Hard Reset:

1) Shutdown the computer.

2) Unplug all the Adapter and peripherals connected.

3) Remove the Battery. ( not for Built-in Battery computer )

4) Press and hold down the power button for 15 to 20 seconds.

5) Plug-in the Adapter and put the Battery back into the computer if it's a (removable battery)

6) Try to turn on the computer and check, If the issue persists continue next step

Set BIOS default and restart:

  1. Restart your notebook.
  2. During startup, press F10 repeatedly until the BIOS menu is displayed.
  3. Once the BIOS menu is displayed, press F9 to restore factory defaults.
  4. Select Yes to confirm.
  5. Press F10 to save changes and exit.
  6. Select Yes to confirm.
  7. The computer restarts using the default settings.

Have you tried to connect the external display and checked?

Thank you for the response. Unfortunately, I got stuck on #2: I tried pressing F10 repeatedly, but nothing appeared on the screen and all I've got is a beeping sound(I think usually you'd get something like when you press the key too often or something). When boot the laptop up, it sounds like laptop is doing some work, fans are spinning. But I cannot see what is going on.

I did try to connect laptop to the external display via VGA port, but nothing appears on the screen. I have a feeling that laptop's internal display is functional, it is just BIOS menu doesn't appear. I don't even see HP logo on the loading screen. All I see is a black screen.

Thank you for the update.

In that case, I would suggest you contact our phone support and check for the support option. They will help you.

Or you can contact the local service center for repair.

Here is how you can get in touch with phone support.

1)Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/

2)Select the product type.

3)Enter the serial number of your device or select let HP detect your product option.

4)Select the country from the drop-down.

5)You should see the HP phone support number or Chat option listed.

We are experiencing longer than expected wait times to reach an agent due to the CoViD-19 impact and there might have been issues in you getting the expected resolution on the issue.

Have a nice day!!
