HP Pavilion
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My laptop has been on blackscreen for 5 days now. I have tried various ways on how to solve it and yesterday when I turned my laptop on, the HP logo appeared with a text on the bottom saying "Preparing Automatic Repair." I waited for almost 10 hours but nothing happened.

Today, I ran System Diagnostics. I first ran Memory Check and it "Passed" and then I clicked Hard Drive Check >> Quick Test; the result read "No hard drive installed. Please check that the power and data cables are connected properly."

What does this mean and what shoud I do next?

Thanks in advance.

Hi
First:- Turn off the computer, press and hold the PWR button for 4 seconds.

Then - Leave only keyboard and mouse connected, disconnect all externally connected
devices such as Docking Station, USB storage devices, displays, and printers.
Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.

Next - Press and Hold the Power button for 15 seconds to Hard Reset.
Rinse and Repeat

NOW begin checking/testing/proving the Hardware is fit for purpose.
Power on your PC, press ESC (repeatedly), then F2 at the prompt.
Choose System Tests (Fast Test does a 4 minute hardware check).

IF you get a 24 character error code, then that may help.

Otherwise the Hard Disk Drive has failed catastrophically, AND/OR the Main Board has a fault and the HDD is not recognised at all.

But the alternative is to remove and replace the Hard Drive as the lesser (and lower cost) of the 2 evils.

You may still be able to Boot from a DVD/USB and try recovery media.

If you quote the SKU: or full model description then we can perhaps link to the troubleshooting page for your PC.
