What is your precise model of HP notebook? HP Notebook PCs - How Do I Find My Model Number, Serial Number or Product Number? What operating system are your running?  

 

I grasp that you are seeing the error message "Boot device failed". Here is a link to HP Notebook PCs - Boot Device Not Found Error or Hard Drive Not Detected. Please let me know the results.
