Product: Elitebook 840 G3
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Purchased this HP Elitebook from a reseller. It's in good condition but when I swapped out the hard drive chip with a ssd hard drive, the laptop would not boot.

After trying to reset the bios password, I chatted tonight with HP support and Amit told me I needed to replace the system board to get around an unknown password issue.

Help!???

Hi:

 

If you can return the notebook to the reseller, I would do so as soon as possible.

 

Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do to help you, since HP will no longer supply the required SMC.bin file that is used to clear the BIOS password.

 

That was the only way it could be done.

Most HP business notebooks including the one you have, do not generate system disabled codes.

 

Also, removing the CMOS battery will not clear the P/W.
