HP laptop 15-da0053wm
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have two HP laptops, both running the current version of Windows 10 home. One laptop, a 15-bs234wm, restarts just fine. The other, a 15-da0053wm, was hanging up on a restart. I changed my power plan to the HP recommended using the default settings, and the problem went away. However, this blanks the screen after 5 minutes, and I must log in again. Since I am running on AC power (I virtually never run on battery). If I change the settings to a longer interval, the laptop hangs up again on a restart. If I let the battery run down and start from a cold boot, I can start up again just fine, just can't do a restart under anything but the default settings. This also prevents me from using a screensaver (I know, a screensaver is not necessary, but the the laptop that has no problem looks so nice running Dream Aquarium).

Any suggestions?

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are facing issues with the power plans.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend you follow the below steps and check if it helps.

Press ‘Win + I’ shortcut keys to open Windows Settings app.

Click on ‘Update & Security’, then go to the ‘Troubleshoot’ section from the left-side menu.

Scroll downwards a bit and click on the ‘Power’ option.

Click on ‘Run the Troubleshooter’. It will start detecting the problems and if it founds, go ahead fixing it.

If you continue facing the issue, then follow the below steps.

On your keyboard, press ‘Windows key + R’ and type ‘Powercfg.cpl’ in it.

Hit the ‘Enter’ key to open power options in the control panel.

From the left-hand side, click on ‘Choose what the power buttons do’.

Then, click on the link ‘Change settings that are currently unavailable’.

From the bottom given power button options, uncheck the ‘Turn on fast startup’ option.

Click on ‘Save changes’ button.

If the issue persists, follow the below steps.

Go to the ‘Start’ menu and type ‘Control panel’ then hit the ‘Enter’ key.

From the top-right filter, choose ‘Large icons’ and navigate to the ‘Power Options’,

Click and open the ‘Power options’.

Select the power plan according to your requirement and click on ‘Change plan settings’.

Click on ‘Change advanced power settings’.

In the power options windows, click on the button ‘Restore plan defaults’.

Click on ‘Apply’ and then ‘OK’ button.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

I've already done all the things you suggested. The problem is every time I change my power settings to anything but the HP recommended plan defaults the restart hang returns. As long as I leave it on the defaults, it doesn't hang. My other HP laptop, a 15-bs234wm, doesn't do this- I can change my power settings to be able to use my screensaver with no ;problem. Both the 15-da0053wm and the 15b2234wm are running the exact same version of Windows 10 home, upgrading at the same time.

I recommend you perform a reset on the computer following the steps in the below article and check whether the issue is resolved.
