Sign on will not respond ...have restarted numerous time

HP Recommended
Pavilion x 2 detachable 10-n108TU
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (32-bit)

Have aged Hp detachable.. logged on and set up internet default, then updated the Norton software, over night a windows update rolled in and finished this morning and today the sign on will not respond.

there appears to be some update still engaged as every few minutes a spinning update appears then goes again.

When i select sign on it goes away then the screen returns but no sign on screen to select the account or enter the password.

Thanks in advance for any help I can get to get a sign on working again
