Hi,
I bought this refurbished online. After few weeks it has shown the Startup menu when turning on without me pressing anything. It only happened twice but would like to know what causing it.
I bought a refurbished Mac last year and the graphics card failed after a short time and it had to go in the bin so I am worried that this could be a sign of something ongoing and I will lose my money again.
This time it is from Currys ebay store so it has 12 month warranty but they do not do any direct repairs.
Please help, thanks

Hello @coffeeandyoga
Welcome to the HP Support forum.
Start menu poping up on its own is a sign either of either a Windows issue (Windows problem or bug) [most likely] or
somebody/something pressing the Windows button by accident [less likely].
This is not a sign of something serious or big failure.
In order to rule out the second hypothesis {the Windows key) , you may read >this tutorial< and download this .reg file to DISABLE the Windows key [prevent Windows from recognising it permanently] >>

Hi there,
I said the Startup menu not the Start menu. As in, MS-DOS black screen has appeared on a couple of occasions and I want to make sure I return this laptop within warranty period if it is a sign of something more progressive or needs fixing. See picture below:
Thoughts?
Many thanks in advance

OK, thank you for the clarification 🙂
What you describe may be caused by BIOS issues. I have never encountered such symptoms on my own but I did an extensive research for you - users here in the HP Community report this has been fixed by updating (or reinstalling the PC BIOS). Give it a try:
- Here are the drivers for your PC model (including BIOS) >> https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-14-bk000-laptop-pc/15551385/model/17053...
- Here are instructions for updating the BIOS on notebooks >> https://support.hp.com/sk-en/document/c00042629
In order to test some major components, you may run the F2 diagnostics and test the hardware.
Please, let me know if this works
