Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Hi team,

When switching off my stream today I was advised to update the HP Bios Software. I did that and it went through the update. I didn't touch the laptop and mains power was connected. Now the computer won't boot up, the screen remains black and the caps lock blink light code flashes 5 long 3 short. Laptop was working perfectly well before running the HP Bios Software update and now I have no computer.. Anything I can do myself? The laptop is just over 1 year old so now our side of manufacturer warranty but I'm hoping for HP support as this was an HP advised update that has now locked up my laptop...

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

  • Firstly, remove the hard drive from the computer.
  • Once the hard drive is removed turn on the computer without the hard drive- While booting as the computer doesn’t detect a hard drive so it’ll automatically roll back to the previous bios.
  • Put the HDD back in and turn it ON. It might give an error about the improper shutdown. Just click continue and it should boot to windows.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
