The Windows logon screen is hidden behind a fainted-black screen
05-20-2021 11:18 AM

One time out of 50, at boot up, the Windows logon screen is hidden behind a fainted-black screen. I have to power off the PC, the logon screen flashes up and system shuts down. Next restart clears up the problem until ...it reappears.

I don't mean to be discouraging, but these kinds of "intermittent issues" are nearly impossible to diagnose and fix.
I have a win10 desktop that fails to boot roughly once a week. The boot hangs until I shut it off, right after the logo. It is running on a SSD, so there is no HDD to fail. I open the case, switch the SSD SATA lead to another port, reboot the desktop -- it works just fine. I shut it down, swap the SSD SATA lead back to the original port, reboot the desktop -- it works just fine.
Sometimes I have to switch the lead to a different SATA port, but every time, when I switch it back, the desktop reboots without issue. I've tried changing cables, and it's the same story.
