Our HP Community is not HP Support - we are a peer-to-peer user group that is located in the HP website.

HP Support maintains no official presence inside the Community.

This information is meant to provide context and not necessarily intended to persuade you to hate us any less.

That said,

If you have not received an answer here in the Community it is perhaps because no one has anything useful to offer.

For example,

I can provide a short list of "maybe this and maybe that" - mostly useless, I know.  In fact, I know little useful about Chromebook behavior.

Your HP Chromebook is essentially a Chromebook with an HP logo pasted onto the case.

You could certainly try asking at the Chromebook user community.

In GENERAL, the culprits might include...(and are not limited to):

  • The Operating System (Chrome OS) is not installing fully / correctly
  • The disk is failing
  • The battery has failed catastrophically (as opposed to just dying due to age / use)
  • The CPU is collapsing / failing / stopping during use
  • The connection to the Internet has failed.  NOTE:  Failure of this type does not normally throw the hardware into a panic, though in the case of a completely Internet dependent device like a Chromebook, sudden loss of Internet might cause all sorts of havoc and would certainly cause everything to stop working as expected.

If your registered device is in Warranty, do contact HP Support and ask about Warranty repair options.

HP Support - Technical Support for Devices in Warranty

Case submission to HP Support is available to those whose devices are registered and still in Warranty.

For the rest of us, this is not an option.

HP Support does not generally provide free service for out-of-warranty devices.

Our Community is not HP Support; we do offer help free of charge.

Submit a case for Warranty Support / Repair to HP Support.

  • Case submission to HP Support is available to those whose devices registered and are still in Warranty.
  • Not every issue is covered under the standard Hardware Warranty.  Purchased Care Pack Warranties differ by contract.
  • HP is not a "general" repair facility: Requests for out-of-warranty repairs are generally not accepted.
  • If the problem is hardware, if your device is in Warranty, if your device is Registered, and you cannot submit your case to Support, let us know and we will forward a request.
  • HP Phone numbers you find on the Internet have likely been hijacked.
