Hello HP, i'm encountering strange issue Watchdog happening at random intervals. For example: today when i wake him it was black screen and had to manually turn it off. My thoughts are either 24H2 is bugged as hell or driver from AMD cause this issue which i don't know how to tell AMD to fix it.
Specs:
Windows 11 24H2
Ryzen 5 5625U with Vega igpu.
16gb ram ddr4.
SSD: 1tb.
Steps i tried:
Clean reinstall laptop: not working.
Scan one by one ram with memtest and karhu ram test: No errors.
SSD: 100% health status S.M.A.R.T latest firmware.
Clean installed latest AMD 24.9.1 which btw driver that support 24H2 is 24.6.1 is not available on AMD website to download for my APU.
Removed battery, run laptop without battery.
Watchdog and other dmp files: [Content Removed]

Hi @Phantom961,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION error and the black screen on wake-up are often caused by driver or firmware issues, particularly with the storage, GPU, or chipset drivers. Since you've already done extensive troubleshooting, let's refine the focus.
Verify AMD Driver Compatibility
- Issue: AMD’s driver compatibility with Windows 11 24H2 seems questionable, especially since 24.6.1 isn't available for your APU.
- Solution:
- Rollback to WHQL Drivers: Install an older WHQL-certified driver (e.g., AMD 23.9.3) known for stability.
- Use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) in Safe Mode to remove current drivers cleanly before reinstalling.
Update BIOS/Firmware
- Visit HP's support page for your HP Laptop 15s and download the latest BIOS. BIOS updates often fix compatibility issues and bugs, especially with newer Windows versions.
Storage Driver Check
- Potential Issue: The SSD might use a generic Microsoft AHCI driver, which can conflict with AMD chipsets.
- Solution:
- Update your storage controller driver to the AMD chipset driver, even if it’s slightly older.
Disable Fast Startup
- Windows Fast Startup can cause issues with AMD systems.
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do > Change settings that are currently unavailable.
- Uncheck Turn on fast startup.
Disable Sleep States in BIOS
- Sometimes, modern sleep states (S0) cause black screen issues.
- Access BIOS and look for power options like Modern Standby or Connected Standby. Disable them, if possible.
Test with Windows 10 or Windows 11 22H2
- If possible, temporarily install an earlier Windows version to verify whether 24H2 is causing the instability.
Analyze Minidump Files
- Enable dump logs:
- Open Control Panel > System > Advanced system settings > Startup and Recovery (Settings).
- Under "Write debugging information," select Small memory dump.
- Use WhoCrashed or BlueScreenView to analyze the dump files for more clues about the exact failing driver or process.
HP Diagnostics Tools
- Run HP’s built-in diagnostics or HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows to identify hardware issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
