HP ZBook 17 G4 Mobile Workstation (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP Zbook started shutting down by itself 2 times this week then today it would go into a loop try to start windows then shut down. I had to hold power button to stop the loop. I have 2 external drives hooked up for a large camera system, so I don't fill up the laptop drives with recordings.  I unhooked them then tried to start laptop had no problems then I hooked them back up got so strange errors (Thunderbolt type-c port configuration not supported) I don't have a thunderbolt device the 2 external drives are usb 3.0. I then received the error message failure ID PLRK28-905B3B-XD7UQK-8D0703. I went into a long troubleshooting and optimizing with HP assistant all day long with no problems found. I started looking into other issues from the pass with windows updates in settings all updates show from 01/17/18 to now no problems when I look into HP assistant I seen 28 red and yellow symbols Infront of software and drivers that didn't  install right. I have spoke with my care pack tech support I had purchased for 2 years from 2018 to 2020 they were not very helpful. I don't know why they didn't tell me about all the problems especially when the bios up dates didn't install correctly several times. I didn't get any updates in 2019 at all. The only new changes was my old router failed purchased a new one installed it. I did make some changes in my BlueIris camera program to change where recording were stored. I usually run one external at a time and may have a conflict there so I will change that when I test them now. If anyone can give me some suggestions I would be grateful thanks.

Hi:

The only thing I can provide for you is the report generated by the code you posted, minus your PC's serial number.

Failure Information
Failure ID Tag Checksum HP Serial Number Test Date Failure Code Device Includes Error Message
PLRK28-905B3B-XD7UQK-8D0703OK00000000004/17/22434CommunicationsGPS, HUB, Modem, Network Card, Network Drive, PCI Card, PCMCIA, Switch, USBUSB Failure (unspecified)

The report is very vague as you can see, and unfortunately, I would have no idea where to begin to troubleshoot the problem.

It would probably require a USB board replacement if that were a removable component or a new PC motherboard if it is not.

Below is the link to the service manual.
