Hi @Sevillarg,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Notebook 15-dy1071wm is showing a black screen when it gets hot or when you attempt a restart, and the caps lock key blinks three times slowly and two times quickly. According to HP's blink codes, this pattern generally indicates an issue with the memory (RAM). However, since you've already replaced the RAM and the problem persists, it might not be a RAM hardware issue.
Given the symptoms and the fact that the laptop works normally when cold, there could be a few other possible causes:
1. Overheating Issue
- Symptoms: The laptop only functions when cold and fails when it heats up.
- Solution: Ensure that the cooling system is fully operational. You've mentioned that you've replaced the cooler, but it might be worth checking:
- Thermal Paste: Ensure that thermal paste is properly applied between the CPU and the heatsink. Poor thermal contact can cause the CPU to overheat quickly.
- Cooling Fan and Vents: Ensure that the fan is working properly and that all air vents are clear of dust and debris.
- Temperature Monitoring: Use software tools like HWMonitor or Core Temp to monitor CPU and GPU temperatures to check if they are within normal ranges.
2. Faulty Motherboard or Memory Slot
- Symptoms: Memory-related error codes persist even after changing RAM.
- Solution: There could be a problem with the memory slot on the motherboard. Try using a different memory slot if available. If the problem persists, there might be a fault in the motherboard itself. In this case, a repair or replacement of the motherboard may be necessary.
3. BIOS Issue
- Symptoms: Occasionally, BIOS settings can get corrupted, leading to hardware detection issues.
- Solution: Try resetting the BIOS to default settings. If a newer BIOS version is available, consider updating it, as it might resolve compatibility or stability issues.
4. Power Supply Issues
- Symptoms: Power delivery problems can cause components to behave erratically.
- Solution: Ensure that your power adapter and battery are functioning correctly. Sometimes faulty power delivery can cause components like the RAM to malfunction.
