Windows 8 HP Pavilion G6 Laptop not restarting, keeps circling.

A week ago, I got a new HP Pavilion G6 with Windows 8. A few days ago,  when the Windows Update wouldn't finish (It was doing updates and I'm not sure if it finished, but there was was a blank screen with the spinning circle on the side) so I had to manually power it off. I reopened it after and it finished configuring the updates or something. I was able to log on and use my computer. When I tried to restart the next day, it said "Restarting" with the circle spinning for about half a hour. I never recieved any error message. I was wondering if anyone could help me. Thanks!

Hello,

I see that you're having an issue with the notebook turning and also booting up.

I have a couple of questions before we get going.

Does this issue only occur when you do Microsoft updates?

Can you give me the full model name and number of the notebook that you have?

Basically your issue is the updates won't finish installing?

I look forward to your response. If you have any more questions let me know.

THX

Re: Windows 8 HP Pavilion G6 Laptop not restarting, keeps circling.

Hi,

I am also having this issue with my HP Pavilion G6.  I only bought it in Feb this year, it an update two nights ago but now has developed this issue.

It boots up as normal, but takes longer, get the lock screen, press the d key and go to the apps screen and this is where it circles.  I see the store and desktop icon only. They fade and then return over and over again.

I have never had an HP before and hope this is something that can be fixed.

Hope you can help.

Many thanks

Re: Windows 8 HP Pavilion G6 Laptop not restarting, keeps circling.

Hello Mustang_Salli,

Your computer is not loading completely after updates.

Do a hard reset.
Turn the computer off.
Remove the power cable and the battery.
Hold down the power button for 15 sec while booth power sources are removed.

This should reset the hardware in the computer.

As you power it back on tap the F2 key. This will load hardware diagnostics.
Run the start up test.

This will test all the hardware in the system and detect any problems.

If all test pass, since it has not been to long since the problem started, you can run a system restore.

This will take the system back to when everything was working correctly without affecting your personal files.

Turn off the computer.

As you turn the computer back on tap ESC

Select F11 system recovery

Select language

Select advanced options

Select system restore.

Let me know how everything goes.

Have a good day.

Hi Anthony82,

I followed your clear instructions and tried to restore back to beginning as I have not done very much on this laptop.  however I have the following message:-

System restore did not complete successfully. Your computers systems files and settings were not changed.

details:

An unspecified error occured during system restore. (0x800ffff)

Is this terminal???

Thanks again for your help so far.

Re: Windows 8 HP Pavilion G6 Laptop not restarting, keeps circling.

Mustang_Salli,

You can try a different restore point or we can refresh windows.

A refresh will uninstall and reinstall windows.

Turn off the computer.

As you turn the computer back on tap ESC

Select F11 system recovery

Select language

Select trouble shoot.

Select refresh.

Let me know how everything goes.

Have a good day.

Re: Windows 8 HP Pavilion G6 Laptop not restarting, keeps circling. Accept A Soultion

Hi Anthony

Thanks so much for helping me with, admittedly I have to set up the laptop again to the apps I want but at least I can use it.

Just one final question  it seems this happened with an update, could it happen again?? If so, would I need to do the same refresh again??  Would it be an idea to stop the automatic updates??

Thanks again,

Re: Windows 8 HP Pavilion G6 Laptop not restarting, keeps circling.

Mustang_Salli,

You’re welcome.

If it was an update that caused the problem, it’s unlikely that it would happen again.

But if it does, try the restore before the refresh.

Have a good day.
