Windows stuck on welcome loom, tried enable safe mode but incorrect password saying

Working on my assignment when windows suddenly updated, the loop freezes so I hit power button down and on it again. After that, the welcome loop freezes. Tried doing shift and restart, pressing system repair and F5 but it asks password and I tried typing in and now it says the password is incorrect. 

p.s. i only borrowed the laptop from my father and now he’s blaming me for doing something that led to the problem. He’s work files are in the laptop.

I don't know why you pressed F5 but if you were trying to do a reset, then it is a good thing it failed because you would have erased ALL the files in the process.  You should not just be pressing function keys when you have issues.

It sounds like a Windows Update failed and trashed the PC -- and this is a very difficult problem to fix, taking hours of work.

IS this password something new, or did it have a password on it when you were first using it?

Since these work files are apparently NOT backed up, then read the information below about creating a boot USB stick you can create to boot the PC and copy these files to another USB stick to save them:

1) On a working PC, use this link to download and install a free copy of Macrium Reflect: http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx
2) Once that is installed, use the option to create a Boot USB stick (Other Tasks --> Create Rescue Media). This creates a bootable USB stick that runs a version of Windows.
3) Boot the PC from that USB stick. To do this, try pressing F9 repeatedly while booting to get a boot drive menu, or press the Esc key repeatedly while booting to get an HP utilities menu, and select the boot menu from that
4) Be patient ... as booting from a USB stick is really, really slow
5) Once in the MR recovery environment, you can then remove the USB stick.
6) Insert a USB stick for holding data and, down at the bottom left of the windows screen are some icons. Select the one on the right to open a form of File Explorer.
7) Use the File Explorer app to locate the files you need and copy them to the USB stick.
