I opened the lid and the screen would not come on, instead the caps lock key was blinking 5 slow blinks then 3 fast blinks. This computer was purchased from HSN in Aug 2015 and has about 10 hours of actual use time. Model #17-G127DS. Computer is Intel Quad-Core, 8GB RAM 1TB HDD. Computer use was for internet access only and Outlook was never loaded. Computer has Macafee security loaded on it. Can this computer be fixed? Closest computer tech is 100 miles from my location at a Staples Store.

Based on the HP article, you need to remove all accessory devices from the notebook.
If you did try everything in the article(s) but nothing helped, I am afraid you will need to bring your computer (or ship it) to service - HP Authorized service center. If the computer is still under warranty, you will need to notify HP support first. If you are not sure where such a center is located, please contact HP support for assistance in finding one.
