dv7 usb mouse malfunctions

Hello,

I am going batty....I have been having a recurring malfunction with multiple USB mouse.  The mouse winds up vanishing off the screen (the sensation and visual is like it's going off the tops or sides of the screen and getting stuck there) and then it gets stuck being lost off the screen and it also stalls out repeatedly.  This is happening to all the different types of mouse I have tried - regardless or wired or wireless and different brands.  I did some research and found an article pointing someone else with similar problems to update their bios so I have done just that but it hasn't affected or solved the problem at all.

I'm at my wits end.  Just as a reminder this problem is with an external mouse not the trackpad on the laptop (cannot stand those).

Any help is appreciated.

dv7 usb mouse malfunctions

Hi Wonder-Woman,

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on the HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook and the TouchPad jerking while you are trying to use it. Here is a link to troubleshoot the Touchpad. if you will go to the section on Adjusting TouchPad  sensitivities it should help resolve the issue. If you wanted to disable the TouchPad here is a link to disabling your Touchpad.

Please let me know.

Thanks.

dv7 usb mouse malfunctions

Hello,

I forgot I had posted this so long ago so I apologize for replying to it now. It is not the touchpad (if you had read my description above I specify USB and wireless mice because I do not use the touchpad because I don't like them I'm not comfortable with them).

I am still experiencing the problem with my nice no matter what type they are and again this is not the touchpad because I do not use the touchpad because I do not like the touchpad because I am not comfortable with the touchpad. When I refer to the mice I am referring to both wired and wireless mice that Connect into any of the four USB ports on the computer. The unusual reaction is that the mice stop dead as in go to sleep and it takes maybe 15 to 30 seconds for them to wake up and become active again period this annoying Behavior happens over and over and over again and it is driving me nuts still. Are is there any diagnostic utilities that I can run on almost a constant basis and make a notation of the time that it happens to submit to HP for them to evaluate the data compared to the times that I provide when the mice freeze up? Just to give you some ideas of what I experienced and when I experienced it I play a game through the GSN Casino application cold Vegas Nights. It is one of those games where you align things and it drops down to give you points. This is not the only time it happens but this is the most frequent time because I play it so constantly because I love it so much. When I am playing the game and the mice go dead typically the pointer shoots up to the top most left hand corner of the screen and just get stuck there for at least 30 seconds or so. When I am using the computer without the game I also do experience this but the mice will just stop dead arbitrarily anywhere on the screen and be stuck dead for at least 30 seconds. Again I am looking to find out if there any utilities that can track system tivity and record it so that I can submit it to HP to figure this out as well as possibly submitting it to the game company for their simultaneous review. Just to remind you this is not the trackpad because I don't like trackpads they are uncomfortable.

Sincerely,
Alisa Klein

dv7 usb mouse malfunctions

Greetings @Wonder-Woman,

I understand that you are facing an issue with your computer freezing up the mouse. (Wired and Wireless) Don't worry, I will be glad to help.

Have you tried any troubleshooting steps on your own?

May I know the product number of your notebook? Click here for assistance.

What is the operating system installed on your computer?

Does the issue occur only while playing the game or while browsing the internet or any other applications as well?

As you mentioned, recommend you to run a System test on your computer to make sure all the components are working correctly.

To enter system diagnostics. Shut down the computer.

Turn the computer ON and keep tapping ESC or F2 to get the startup menu and select system diagnostics.

In system diagnostics, you have an option to run a system test on the computer.

Refer to this HP Article for assistance.

Also, make sure all the drivers are updated using HP Support Assistant. Click here for assistance.

Recommend you to open task manager and check if there is any application using a lot of resources or is not responding.

To open Task manager, press Ctrl + Alt + Del or right-click on the taskbar on the bottom of the computer.

To understand or change the mouse settings, please refer to this HP Article

To the best of my knowledge, I feel that there an issue with the application not responding rather than the mouse settings.

Please try the suggested steps and let me know how it goes.

If the information I've provided was helpful,

Please give us some reinforcement by clicking the "Accepted Solution" and "Kudos" buttons,

That’ll help us and others see that we’ve got the answers!

Good Luck.
