I am the IT manager at my company. I had an employee quit and leave their company laptop here but it has facial recognition and fingerprint lock on it. How can I get in this to factory reset so I can use for another employee?

@ynksfan98j, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To factory reset an HP laptop that is locked with facial recognition and fingerprint authentication, you can bypass the login screen using the built-in recovery tools. Here's a step-by-step guide tailored for IT managers like yourself:

Factory Reset HP Laptop Without Login Credentials

Method: Using HP Recovery Environment (No Password Needed)

Power Off the Laptop completely.

Turn it On and Immediately Press F11 repeatedly until the "Choose an option" screen appears.

  • If F11 doesn’t work, try Esc, F9, or F10 depending on the model.

Select Troubleshoot from the menu.

Click on Reset this PC.

Choose Remove everything to wipe all data and settings.

For a secure reset (especially if reassigning the device), select:

  • Remove files and clean the drive – this takes longer but ensures data is unrecoverable.

Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the reset.

Additional Notes:

  • Back up any needed data before proceeding if you have access.
  • Ensure the laptop is plugged into power during the reset.
  • After the reset, the laptop will boot into the Windows setup screen, ready for a new user.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
