Hi @drake1112,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

If your HP Envy x360 laptop is randomly shutting off, it could be due to several reasons, including hardware issues, overheating, or software conflicts. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can take to identify and resolve the problem:

Check for Overheating:

  • Ensure that the laptop is not overheating. Check if the vents are blocked by dust or debris. Use compressed air to clean out any dust from the vents and fans.

Update BIOS:

  • An outdated BIOS can sometimes cause power issues. Go to the HP Support website to download and install the latest BIOS for your laptop model.

Check Power Settings:

  • Go to Settings > System > Power & sleep. Ensure that the settings are configured to prevent the laptop from shutting down unexpectedly.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics:

  • Restart your laptop and press the Esc key repeatedly until the Startup Menu opens. Select F2 for System Diagnostics. Run tests for the battery and system components.

Test the Battery:

  • If you have a removable battery, try running the laptop with the battery removed and just the AC adapter plugged in. If it doesn’t shut off, the battery may be faulty.

Kindly check the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @drake1112,

Please find the next steps below.

Check for Software Conflicts:

  • Make sure your operating system and all drivers are up to date. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update to check for updates.

Run System File Checker:

  • Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run the command:

Check for Malware:

  • Run a full scan with your antivirus software to ensure that there are no malware issues causing the shutdowns.

Check Event Viewer:

  • Open Event Viewer (search for it in the Start menu) and look for any critical errors or warnings around the time of the shutdowns. This may provide clues about what’s causing the issue.

Reset Windows:

  • If the problem persists, consider resetting Windows. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery > Reset this PC.

If you've tried all of these steps and the issue still occurs, it may be a hardware problem, and it would be best to contact HP phone support for further assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
