HP Recommended

My laptop has had battery issues for the last few days. It was working Ok on the A/C charger but when I charged the battery so the light showed white, the system cut out immediately when I try to power on (took most of a day), and the light switched off again. Now the same thing happens just on A/C charger alone, without battery - white light comes on, but switches off was soon as I try to power on, and then takes an age to light up again. I'm worried I've had a bad battery which has now wrecked the motherboard completely.
