An intermittent fault started a few weeks ago, and I've just managed to narrow it down.

 

When slight pressure is applied to the underside of the laptop, on the right-hand side, one of two things happen:

 

1/ the screen goes green, with a few purple rectangles, with lots of flashing on and off green rectangles.

2/ the screen locks with no mouse or keyboard inputs working.

 

For both the only way to resolve is to power down using the power button. On re-start, the laptop works as normal, until I replicate the fault.

 

Any ideas?

With my 10-year old HP laptop, that weighs a TON compared to your model, I would have to jump on it to deform the case.

 

But with these new, lightweight ones, all it takes is pressing on the case to deform it.  While that should not do anything, from your description, it sounds like a system board trace might be cracked, and when you deform the case, you also deform the board, causing video artifacts.

 

But, having no access to the laptop, this is only a wild guess -- and to confirm this, you would have to take the laptop to a service facility to see if they can check it out to confirm the issue.
