Hi @bigwillie20002,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP laptop is not displaying the power light and not starting up, and you've already replaced the battery but noticed corrosion on the motherboard, there could be several potential issues. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Inspect the Corrosion:

  • Examine the corrosion on the motherboard closely. Ensure there is no visible damage to critical components.

Clean Corrosion:

  • If the corrosion is mild, you may attempt to clean it using isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush or cotton swab. Make sure the laptop is completely powered off before attempting this.

Check Power Adapter:

  • Verify that the power adapter is functioning correctly. Try using a different power outlet and, if possible, a different power adapter to eliminate the possibility of a faulty power source.

Remove External Devices:

  • Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, external hard drives, etc.) and try booting the laptop without any peripherals connected.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Disconnect the laptop from the power source, remove the battery, and hold down the power button for about 15-20 seconds. Then reconnect the battery and power source and try turning it on.

Memory and Hard Drive Check:

  • Reseat the RAM modules and the hard drive. If possible, try starting the laptop with only one RAM module at a time to identify if one of them is faulty.

External Monitor Test:

  • Connect the laptop to an external monitor to check if the issue lies with the laptop's display.

Motherboard Repair or Replacement:

  • If the motherboard has significant corrosion and cleaning doesn't resolve the issue, it may require professional repair or replacement.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
