hi. trying to boot up my laptop, and all that happens is a black screen and my caps lock blinking. it seems to be 5 longer blinks followed by 3 short ones. I followed all the instructions i was given elsewhere (turning it off and back on, removing everything hooked up to it, etc) but it's still happening. this model doesn't have a removable battery, so that's out of the question as well. I've looked at other threads like this with little luck. what do I do?

This does not look good. The LED code indicates a major hardware problem
Remove memory and put back in. You can try taking the battery out

The red light blinks five times, and then three, short white light blinks (5 long red, 3 short white)
This condition indicates that the embedded controller cannot reach the BIOS within the established time limit.
Remove all accessory devices from the notebook.
Contact HP Customer Support if the issue persists.
