HP ENVY Laptop - 17m-cg0013dx

HP ENVY LAPTOP 17M-cg0013dx

Bought a 2nd drive SATA cable. Tried installing my Micron SATA 3 SSD. Bios did not find it. Rebooted and it showed only one boot. Since then Windows and BIOS will not see the drive.

The drive was in MBR, switched to GPT as windows 11 only supports GPT for windows installations. Still wont see drive.

Purchased an external Sata to usb 3.0 enclosure. Drive reads and shows just fine.

Removed m.2 optane drive, left SATA connected. Did not work.

I read BIOS option is locked down. This points to my problem, or am I wrong?

The intel Raid configuration is locked as a default and overrides any option thus is why HP disabled and locked down the options in the BIOS... Am I correct?

I have the Intel Optane m.2 ssd 512gb + 32gb .

I have not tried to disable RST through the Intel app then disable Optane in the BIOS.

I do not believe it will change anything.

Can anyone chime in on how to actually get a 2nd hard drive in this system that has an extra 2.5 slot and has SATA motherboard connection? If read through the manual and can not find any supporting documentation regarding it, other then it should just work and be plug and play compatible.

Did I purchase a used paperweight? Am I stuck with only using the m.2 slot and upgrading away from the Optane?

I want to ditch the Optane in the future if i keep this laptop anyways. If I cant find a solution or help in going to be forced to change support for HP and go to another company. Ive been with the HP ENVY line since the old DV6 and DV7 days.

The Bios seems extremely limited and I'm assuming this is the problem.

Further Fresh install using HP recovery tools and Cloud Recovery making a bootable repair USB, installing as factory specs Still did not see the drive, That was installing windows 10.

As of now I'm cloning an image file of the Optane m.2 before disabling it through the app then in the bios and see what happens after. I'm worried about disabling and then creating a brick or not being able to properly reinstall and keep my data/software installed.

2nd thought... Anyone in the market for one of these? I'll probably be moving on from HP. (Shakes Head)

Found a thread on here leading me to believe perhaps I purchased a 10pin sata cable instead of a 12. I'll be opening up and checking after i source the correct cable. Seems any sata cable with the part number is causing a whole lot issues. Fingers crossed for anyone else coming accross this same or similar issue to check your cable and make sure you have the correct one. Will update when i open and check in a day or two.
