HP Spectre X360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have 2x HP Spectre X360 laptops that stopped turning on 1 month apart from each other. Both laptops (i5 [13-4002dx] and i7 [13-4014TU] model) gave off a burning smell before eventually turning off.

The first laptop to do this was the i5 which, being out of warranty, was opened and found to have the below damage:

I attributed this to bad luck and moved on, until 1 month later when the i7 did the exact same thing. When i googled the problem, i could see that i wasn't the only one having this issue with these models:

I'm not sure who I'm speaking to here but if HP are listening, know that i am left with almost $3000 AUD worth of laptops that don't work which CLEARLY exhibit all the symptoms of a manufacturing fault; not to mention A FIRE HAZARD!!!

I contacted HP about this and was advised the laptops were out of warranty which i find unacceptable given the amount of people with this issue. These units should have been recalled as a safety hazard!

Please advise

@DK4865

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

DK4865,

If you have not already done so, you might want to read my post about the very same issue here:

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Spectre-x360-13-4003dx-will...

HP offered to repair it for an unacceptable price. Ultimately I sent the entire laptop off to an independent repair facility in Miami. It  cost me $100 plus $40 for shipping ($20 each way).

That was about 6 months ago. It's still woking fine,
