AIO 24 R-180a

24-r180a All in One
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I would like to upgrade the RAM on my All in One Pavillion  24-r180a. it is currently using a  MTA8ATF1G64HZ-2G6E1 from Micron. Can someone suggest a good alternative that is both fast and reliable ? and if it is better to use 2x8 or 1x16 configuration ? Thank you

Max single module is stated to be 8 gigs but this architecture would support 2 x 16 gig DDR4-2400 SO-DIMM.

If your goal is to have 16 gigs total, which is plenty of memory for almost any user, you are better off with 2 x 8 than 1 x 16.

This is because of dual channel memory operation, which is a bit faster and can only happen if there are two identical or nearly identical memory modules.

Your existing Micron module is a DDR4-2666 which will downclock to 2400 speed. Your best bet would be to try to find another like it.

Could i Instead get 2x 8 Gig  Crucial CT8G4SFS824A 8GB (1x8GB) 2400MHz DDR4 SODIMM ? Do you think this would work ? i do not know if it is any different from the existing ram and if i could just remove the existing one and replace it with the one above mentioned ?

Thank you for your quick response.

Not sure why you would discard a perfectly good 8 gig module just to replace it with another one?

You do not need to take "identical" to that extreme. Any DDR4-2666 single rank SO-DIMM will be fine and will run in dual channel. You can buy a single Crucial DDR4-2666 module and it will work fine.
