Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Can I add a SSD to my Pavilion 15-069si in addition to the current HDD and transfer the operating system and apps to the SSD using the HDD exclusively for data? Thanks. Nico Smith.

Hi,

It does not have a spot for an extra 2.5" drive. I guess you could use a caddy and remove the DVD drive.

The best idea is just to replace the Hard Drive with a 2.5" SATA 3 SSD of your preferred brand and capacity.

Example

https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-MX500-500GB-NAND-Internal/dp/B0786QNS9B/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&keyw...

On page 67 of service manual you can see the steps to replace the drive

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04439615.pdf

You can perform a clean install of the OS by creating a bootable drive with the OS on it

Download Windows 10

Hope it helps,

David

I wouldn't like to sacrifice the HDD for a SSD. I'll gain speed but lose capacity. What about the option of losing the DVD drive (that I'm not really using) and substituting it with A SSD? Is that possible?

OK.

You will need a 9.5mm HDD caddy which you can insert where the DVD drive is now. You should place the HDD in the caddy and the SSD where the HDD is now.

To remove the DVD drive you can see on page 51 of service manual.

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04439615.pdf

Example of caddy

https://www.amazon.com/HIGHROCK-Universal-Enclosure-DVD-ROM-Optical/dp/B0177AF7OO

Ib short here are the steps to follow

  • create installation media (USB drive) with Windows 10 on it  (Download Windows 10 )
  • remove the hard drive and place the SSD in its place
  • Install Windows 10 on the SSD (using the Pendrive)
  • remove DVD drive
  • place the HDD in the caddy and insert it into the machine.

Hope it helps,

David
