Are the Fermi, Kepler and Maxwell GPU cards all interchangeable as long as they are MXM 3.0b?

The subject is the question. Hope someone knows and thank you. This is for my HP 8770W Elitebook.

The only graphics MXM cards that are published as being compatible with the workstation are:

Graphics Support for the following graphics subsystem graphics boards (all feature OpenGL driver support):

●AMD FirePro M5950 XT-GL 1GB GDDR5 (DP 1.2 and Eyefinity Plus support)
●NVIDIA Quadro 3000M, N14E-Q1 2 GB dedicated GDDR5 video memory
●NVIDIA Quadro 4000M, N14E-Q3 2 GB dedicated GDDR5 video memory
●NVIDIA Quadro 5010M, N14E-Q5 4 GB dedicated GDDR5 video memory 

They are not described by architecture, but a Google search will describe the architecture of each card.

Graphics cards are not described by their architecture, manufacturers give them a reference card name and companies buy the rights to use the reference designs ands give them their own brand names.

You will have to change your approach and just search with HP 8770W Elitebook + the specific name of a card that some may have used as a verified video solution upgrade.  Choosing good keywords are the key to a successful search.
