Spectre x360 15-df0013dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Windows automatically updated me to the latest BIOS, F.32 Rev.A. Before this update, my fans ran consistently and my thermals were incredibly manageable. I was able to do pretty much anything without severe throttling. After this BIOS update, suddenly my fans barely kick in at all. It almost seems random when they do. Sometimes it gets very hot -- even near 90 degrees -- and the fans won't run at all. And even when they do run, they might cool the thing down to like 60 degrees and just stop running.

On the previous BIOS version, my laptop would barely get above 70 degrees under load -- in conjunction with ThrottleStop. It was a dream.

This thing is literally unusable now. Any task beyond browsing the internet causes it to throttle. I tried going into the BIOS and changing the fans to "always on" and that seemed to literally do nothing at all. The fans barely run at all. I would gladly put them at 100% all the time as opposed to not at all.

The vents are clean.

This is the latest BIOS version.

I've performed a hard reset.

I performed a BIOS recovery.

Is this being looked into at all? I seriously can't use my laptop for anything even remotely CPU/GPU intensive anymore without it getting too hot and throttling like crazy.

At the very least, I'd love a way to go back to the previous bios version.

@fransguf,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I reviewed your post and I understand that the computer is overheating, and the fan is not turned on always.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend you follow the steps in the below article to roll back the BIOS to the previous version.

So I created the BIOS recovery thumb drive as per the article you linked. I used the win+B combination to enter into the BIOS recovery screen (I had done this previously without a thumb drive). But it doesn't appear to do anything different when my thumb drive is plugged in. It goes through the recovery, and nothing changes. I'm still on the latest version.

I tried doing this CMOS reset at the bottom of the article too, and nothing different.

Is there something special I need to do to get it to actually use the BIOS in my thumb drive?

@fransguf,

Did you download the BIOS version F.32 on the thumb drive or the previous version?

You need to download the BIOS version on the thumb drive which you want to install it on the computer.
