Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Do the M.2 slot available in this model support Pcie Nvme - M.2 (Samsung 960 Evo Series) or only SATA M.2 (Samsung 860 Evo Series).  Can some one please confirm so that I can decide which one to buy.

Hi,

@neevan_reddy

on page 3 of service manual we can see that it only supports SATA M2 drives

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05493257

@pvnnpavan

It is possible that the WLAN card M2 slot has one pcie lane connected to it, however it will not be able to be used with a M2 PCIe ssd.

Hope it helps,

David

Hi,

It supports only M2 SATA3 drives as we can see on page 3 of service manual:

Thanks for quick reply.  It does clarify my query.

One more tough.

Why is it mentioned M.2/PCIe for WLAN.. Do this mean WLAN M.2 slot is using PCIe and SSD M.2 slot is using SATA lane.

So, you bought your hp 15-bs145tu and installed a m.2 ssd in it and been using it.
Can you confirm if can use this m.2 in my hp 15-bs145tu

Samsung 860 EVO Series - 500GB M.2 SATA Internal SSD (MZ-N6E500BW) https://www.amazon.in/dp/B078218TWQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_meMhBbNZNDYYJ

It is sure that hp 15-bs145tu has m.2 slot. The question is, does it has SATA or NVMe

SATA - Samsung 860 EVO Series - 500GB M.2 SATA Internal SSD (MZ-N6E500BW) https://www.amazon.in/dp/B078218TWQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_meMhBbNZNDYYJ

NVMe - Samsung 960 Evo Series - 250GB Pcie Nvme - M.2 Internal Ssd (Mz-V6E250Bw) https://www.amazon.in/dp/B01LYFKX41/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_SgMhBbYVN9N25

The page 3 of that manual, only says what a user should and shouldn't do with his/her laptop. Where does it say that laptop only takes SATA M2 drives.

From what I have seen, if there is a NVME, it was mentioned specifically for that model.  I saw the same for one model of HP 360.

It seems this one have SATA M.2 only with can go upto 500+Mbps..

Oh, thanks. That does clarify my query.
What is difference between"SATA" and "SATA3"
HP Recommended

Its either SATA II, or SATA III

II - upto 3 Gbps

III - Upto 6 Gbps

if you are using SSD, you can get maximum performance when you connect to SATAIII, since SATA II limits speeds to 200-300 Mbps.
