Hi I bought my laptop a few weeks ago, I noticed that it does not charge past 81%-85% when the laptop is on I updated the windows and also the bios and it didn't help. I also noticed that sometimes when the laptop is off and charging it goes to 100%
i also did the battery test but when the charge is below 80 it tells me the battery is working fine, but once it reaches 81%-85% it tells me that i need to replace it. I don't know if it's a bug or my battery has issues...

Hi @Aboodice,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are experiencing a common issue that can have a few potential causes. Here are some steps and considerations to help diagnose and potentially resolve the problem:
1. Check Battery Health Settings:
- Battery Health Management: Some laptops have battery health management features that limit charging to around 80-85% to prolong battery life. Check if your laptop has such a setting and disable it if you prefer a full charge.
- Windows 10/11: Go to Settings > System > Battery > Battery health settings.
2. Reset Battery Calibration:
- Battery Calibration: Sometimes, recalibrating the battery can help. To recalibrate:
- Fully charge the laptop to 100%.
- Use the laptop on battery power until it shuts down due to low battery.
- Charge the laptop back to 100% without interruption.
- Repeat this process 2-3 times.
3. Update Battery Drivers:
- Ensure your battery drivers are up to date:
- Open Device Manager > Batteries.
- Right-click on "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" and select "Update driver."
4. Check for Firmware Updates: Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Besides BIOS, ensure that any firmware related to the battery or power management is up to date. Check the HP support website for your specific model.
5. Run HP Battery Check Utility:
- HP provides a battery check tool which might give more detailed information.
- Download and run the HP Support Assistant, which includes a battery check utility.
6. Battery Test in BIOS:
- Run a battery test from the BIOS:
- Restart the laptop and press Esc repeatedly to open the Startup Menu.
- Select System Diagnostics > Battery Test.
7. Test Battery Behavior in Safe Mode:
- Boot your laptop in Safe Mode to see if the issue persists. This can help identify if a third-party application is causing the problem.
- Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
- In the System Configuration window, go to the Boot tab and check "Safe boot."
8. Check for Software Conflicts:
- Uninstall any battery or power management software you may have installed and see if that resolves the issue.
