I think you need part number 922977-855 but to be sure go to the below site and put in your serial number

Have you run a battery report?  It will give you the name of the battery you are using

you run the battery report by bringing up the administrator command windows "cmd" and running powercfg/batteryreport as shown below

After entering that explorer line you should see something like the following. You will have to click on it as it is long

This is really suspicious, the battery serial number is missing.  

My experience is all genuine HP batteries have a serial number and show a part number.  

Where did you get the battery?  Was this a new system?

What does the HP Support Assistant show for battery part number?  It is the "T104055"  shown below

i thought it was strange too sobs. i got it as a gift for christmas around 2019!  and i have no idea how to find the hp support assistant to have a look, truthfully. do i have to download that?

It should have come with your laptop

Enter "HP support assistant" on the windows search and if it cannot be found then download it here

If it has never been run before it may find a lot of updates.

Have you run diagnostics?  Tap ESC when powering up and run disk and memory diagnostics. Battery info may be shown.

anyway, what did you find for the battery part number when you tried your serial number

batteries come with a kit of tools except for the lower priced ones sold to tech shops.
