Pavilion g6-2228ca
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

Since last night, my battery is not charging anymore. There is a blinking orange light when I plug the AC adapter (original adapter from HP). At first, the battery meter was reading "0% remaining, plugged in, not charging", but now it reads "255% available, plugged in", yet the computer doesn't work on battery power. I have two different batteries that do not charge (including the original one from HP), so I'm confident the battery is not the problem (the second battery reads 0%). The AC adapter appears to be working fine (and is not subject to a recall from HP). I'm using a HP Pavilion g6-2228ca Notebook with Windows 10 Home 64-bit 18362.175.

What is more troubling is that the usual diagnosis methods generate weird results.

- HP Hardware diagnostic tool generates "test cancelled" for both AC adapter and battery tests.

- HP Support assistant battery test generates "Unknown". (It also crashed my computer a few times).

- UEFI Hardware diagnostic tool is stuck forever at 2% when I launch a battery test. AC adapter test is not in the option menu.

- Batterybar reads "No battery detected".

- Powershell Powercfg /batteryreport creates a file with no numerical data.

I already tried the following without effect :

1) I uninstalled the AC adapter and ACPI drivers (10.0.18362.1) from Device Manager, unplugged the computer, removed the battery, put the battery back and let it reinstall the drivers.

2) I updated the UEFI to 5.3.3.0

3) I updated the BIOS to F.2A

4) I updated everything in Windows Update and HP Support Assistant updates.

Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Thanks!

@Alcam1 Welcome to HP Forums Community!

If you've got more than one battery and they both have charging issues, this is most likely an issue with the adapter or the charging port, I suggest you check with an alternate adapter to verify the issue and if the other adapter works fine too, it's an issue with the charging port and considering you've already updated the UEFI Hardware diagnostics, BIOS and the tests you've initiated have auto-canceled, I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options:

follow the below steps to get started:

1) Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Click on "Continue as guest".

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!

Also, if you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty, if yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from,

did you ever get a resolution?

I got a new battery which is charging, so it was not the adapter after all. Both old batteries keep producing weird results so I no longer use them.
