Hi

So I noticed that my laptop battery only charges to 85-90% recently, though it's only just over a year old. There's no heavy usage as its mainly used for studying. I did the battery test and it said I needed to have it changed, but I'm not so sure.

Is there any other way to fix this issue?

I have also changed from using multiplugs to wall outlets, not sure if that makes a difference.

Thanks

@D-CSI I have a few steps listed below that should help you resolve this concern:

Unplug the charge, Turn off the laptop and turn it back on after 30mins.

Reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under device manager:

1) In the search box, type and open “Device Manager”.

2) Expand “Batteries”.

3) Right-click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.

4) Click on “Uninstall”.

5) At the prompt put a check in the box to remove the current driver

6) Shutdown the computer.

7) Remove the battery for a minute and then put it back in.

8 - When the computer comes back up it should automatically find the driver.

9) Go to Device Manager.

10) Expand Batteries.

11) Right-click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.

12) Click "Search automatically for updated driver software"

Do the same thing with Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller.

If the issue persists, run a battery and adapter test using the steps mentioned in this link: Click here

Hi @Riddle_Decipher

I have run the battery test from HP assistant as well as the F2 menu on start-up. I’ve also tried uninstalling the ACPI driver, though I think that doesn’t work for me because it’s not a removable battery. The bottom of the laptop is fully covered, not like the older ones where the batteries were detachable.

any other solutions would be great, as I’m not looking forward to having to shell out money for a new battery so quickly.

@D-CSI Does that mean the tests have passed? Also, if it has, you may want to create a new user account and check if that works fine, without these issues and get back to me with the results,

Good luck!

Hi @Riddle_Decipher

i don’t know what you mean by tests have passed because the battery still isn’t charging to a full 100%

here’s a screenshot of the tests

I don’t know why it says cell 4 -0 because the battery only has three cells in it. I checked the product guide... unless I’m missing something

the uninstall of MCPI doesn’t work because I can’t take out the battery without opening the entire back of the laptop

@D-CSI I'm referring to my previous post that asks you to run a test - "f the issue persists, run a battery and adapter test using the steps mentioned in this link: Click here",

Did you run the test? if yes, what were the results?

Keep me posted.

Hi @Riddle_Decipher

I did run the battery test

2 actually - one from the HP Assistant app and one from the maintenance menu when the laptop starts up, the F2 menu - sorry I don’t know the name for it and these were the results

@D-CSI if it automatically stopped at 93%, we maybe looking at a hardware malfunction and I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options, follow the below steps to get started:

1) Click on this link - http://www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Click on Sign-in or select the product using the below step:

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!

Also, if you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty, if yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from,
