HP Omen 17 cb0014ni
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm having trouble calibrating the battery on a brand new Omen 17 laptop.

I have tried all the steps and different procedures outlined on the HP Support Website. None of the methods work.

Here is a link to the HP Support Site: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04700771#AbT2

Every time it gives either one of these two messages after running batter test/calibration: "Primary Battery: Calibrate (20) or Primary Battery: Calibrate (21)"

I have also attached a picture taken from the HP UEFI battery test function after running the test/calibration function under Component Tests.BATTERY TEST RESULT.png

Please tell me there is a solution other than having to replace the battery on this brand new machine.

Let us try these steps:

Update the BIOS

Click here to download the same.

Restart the Notebook and try to re-calibrate the battery.

Hi there,

I've updated the BIOS twice to no avail. HP service center recommended I get the battery replaced under warranty as it's still a brand new machine. The battery only charged up to 95% design capacity no matter how many times I run the calibration tools.

But after using the computer under max load during gaming for about 2.5 hours checking the CPU temps every 30 minutes the following happened:

*Note that the battery was 100% before I started gaming.

I noticed the battery was at 96% full and charging after exiting the game after the first 30 minutes of gaming to check CPU temp etc.. I then waited until it charged to 100% full before starting the game again. The battery when 100% charged was at 96% design capacity at this stage.

Then after exiting the game after 1 hour of play the battery stated it was 98% full and charging. When it was finished charging and 100% full it was at 98% design capacity.

I continued this cycle until after 2.5 hours the battery finally charged up to the full design capacity and no longer gave the error message stating the battery needs to be calibrated when running the HP Battery Check Tool.

So I don't know why it had this anomalous behavior? I'm just glad it's charging the full design capacity and that I don't have to send it to be replaced.

I ran the battery check in the following HP Tools just to verify the battery is functioning 100%:

  1. HP SUPPORT ASSISTANT (Passed)
  2. HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (Passed)
  3. HP UEFI battery diagnostics. (Passed)

I will keep monitoring the battery health on a daily basis and post it here if there are any changes or anomalous behavior again.

Maybe someone else is also having the same issues and this can help them?

Thanks for the assistance.
